🦟Did you know a single mosquito bite could put your pet at risk?🦟
April is Heartworm Awareness Month! At Urban Tails, we care about the health and happiness of every pet we see — and that’s why we’re spreading the word about heartworm prevention. 🩺
❓What is heartworm disease?❓
Heartworm disease is a serious and potentially fatal condition caused by parasitic worms living in the heart, lungs, and blood vessels. It’s spread through the bite of an infected mosquito and can affect both dogs🐶and cats🐱!
Mosquitoes are more than just a nuisance — they can carry microscopic heartworm larvae and pass them to pets with a single bite.
Even indoor pets are at risk because mosquitoes can easily find their way inside homes, camping and lodging facilities, and even vehicles.
❓Why does it matter?❓
Heartworm disease can be difficult and expensive to treat. 💸
Many pets show no signs of infection until the damage is severe. ⚠️
Prevention is easy, safe, and far less costly than treatment. 🎯
While heartworm disease hasn’t been very common in our community in the past, cases are on the rise in Wyoming 📈 and pets here are increasingly at risk.
If you travel with your pet to other communities or states, it's even more important to have them protected — heartworm risk can be much higher in different areas!
Now is a great time to talk to your veterinarian about:
✔️Getting your pet tested for heartworms
✔️Starting a prevention plan recommended by your vet
✔️Keeping your pet protected during all your adventures
We love seeing your pets happy and healthy — let's work together to keep them safe! 💙🐾💚
